History of RMSS

Our Why

RMSS supports underserved communities by providing free screenings that offer vital preventative care. These services not only help address health disparities in Lubbock but also give our members valuable hands-on experience with patients, fostering empathy and shaping them into compassionate future healthcare leaders.

How it’s done

Screenings are held weekly in Lubbock, Texas, at Grace Campus, First United Methodist Church, After Amen, and the Dream Center. These screenings are conducted by our trained members, with results from each station reviewed by a healthcare professional. This process allows patients to address any concerns.

Our History

Founded in 2019, this organization was created in response to the significant health disparities affecting underserved communities. We recognized the lack of access to essential healthcare services for many individuals, particularly those in marginalized populations.

What we do

Screenings

Screenings are a core component of RMSS and are integral to our mission of supporting the underserved in the Lubbock area. Through our screenings, members gain valuable clinical experience and exposure to working directly with patients.

Socials

As a community-focused organization, we prioritize both serving the Lubbock area and strengthening connections among our members. Our social events offer a relaxed space to connect, share experiences, and foster a supportive, inclusive environment.

Public Health Initiatives

At RMSS, our public health initiatives are a key way we serve the communities around us, particularly in Lubbock and the surrounding areas. These initiatives focus on addressing pressing health needs and improving overall community wellness through education, outreach, and direct services.

Fundraising

Fundraisers are vital for financing RMSS events and activities. They help cover costs like venue rentals, materials, and logistics, ensuring our programs—such as screenings, training, and outreach—run smoothly. By involving both our members and the community, these efforts allow us to continue providing valuable services and enhance our impact.

Trainings

Training is how we onboard our members, preparing them to participate in screenings. During training, we teach members how to use our Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system, cover the basics of bedside manner, introduce common medications, and train them in taking vitals and more!

Guest Speakers

Most of our members are pursuing pre-health pathways, so we host guest speakers to support their professional development. These speakers provide valuable insights, allowing members to ask questions and deepen their knowledge of the healthcare field. This direct engagement helps our members better understand their future careers.
